Dear All
My year of travel is over and I'm back home. I have taken my first tentative steps towards producing my witer's website.
I plan to present a mixture of travel writing and commentary on the trials and tribulations of moving to the countryside (of which there are many - the list grows daily).
Have a look and tell me what you think.
Kind regards, Kate _________________ Visit my website to see a selection of my writing and links to published work: http://www.elizabethducie.co.uk |

I looked, I liked. I would have described as expert not tentative. I like the pink. Warmly welcomng - contradicted by your stern face, though I thought I detected a suspicion of a twinkle in the eyes. A friend has a black background which I find difficult to stay with for long.
I should be interested to know its purpose. Do you intend a blog? Do you want publicity for your writing, for people to get to know you and then look for your books and articles? You have said what you plan to include - and I thought your article on planning travelling for work excellent - but I didn't feel I knew its purpose. I have no intention of going down this route but I imagine it is a good thing to know what you want from it, otherwise there might be a danger of it becoming woolly and cease to be interesting to anyone.
In due course you will no doubt request links with Swanwick, Ask and others.
Well done.

Hi Tess
Thanks for your positive feedback. Also, thanks for the reminder about asking for links. I've done them in one direction, but forgot to do them in reverse.
Purpose - yes, good question. I guess it has two purposes. Firstly, it's a place that will lead people to my articles and other writing. At present, I only have one published (as in paid) piece in my portfolio. However, that raises the question "what does published mean?" There are some people who say only work that is paid for is valid, others would say all writing is valid. I'm hoping that my collection of other articles will act as a shop window for my work.
Secondly, it's a place to put my travel writing (for the moment). I came to this whole creative writing lark through a wish to put some of my travel experiences into words (other than dinner table anecdotes). This is the start of that project.
My two books are highly technical and are published in my real name. So I've not put a link to those on this site, although they are referenced in my company site.
This is all new to me; I would welcome feedback on whether it makes sense or not.
Kind regards, Kate _________________ Visit my website to see a selection of my writing and links to published work: http://www.elizabethducie.co.uk |

Hello Kate.
If I was you, I would post anything I had published on your new web log.
It's all writing and it's what has brought you to your present position.
A bit like our life experiences, for good or ill, informing our view of our fellow humans.
A way of getting traffic to your site is to ask for reciprocal links from any sites you link to; not all will agree; but enough will to make it worthwhile.
Continued success.

Hi Kate
Best of luck with your website. I hope you get lots of attention on it. A lot of people love travel writing and the piece you wrote is lovely.
Wouldn't it be great if after all the writing gathering dust was worth more than we thought. Send it out there.
Good luck _________________ Joan Thorpe |

Hi Kate, and everyone,
This is my first visit to the forum in ages, and I can see I have a lot to catch up on. I hope to do so over the holiers and to have a look at your website soon, Kate. Unfortunately, my brother is terminally ill and I've been very preoccupied with moving him to a Nursing Home near me. Thankfully he's settled in now and comfortable. Other illness in the family has been a cause of worry as well, so all in all I'll be glad to see the back of 2007.
Haven't been doing any writing for a while, but it's good to see others are at it! Here's wishing you all a very happy Christmas and New Year, and continued success with the writing. I hope to be re-joining the wriitng world in the not too distant future.
Best wishes, _________________ Carol |

Hi Carol,
Glad to hear you have been able to get your brother settled and I hope the health of the rest of your family is improving. You must be quite exhausted.
All the best fir 2008.
